I Am Sorry, God. I Was Disorganized.

Do you have a dream that you have wanted to pursue for a while? Perhaps it is a vision for creating a non-profit, a business, or a movement. Perhaps it is simply homeschooling your kids.

In all of these ventures, you are required to create something from nothing. The stakes are high, and you have to be a self-starter. Furthermore, no one is going to put deadlines on you or tell you where to be when.

When you bring your dreams to life…

You are the boss.

You make the decisions.

You launch the vision and create the plan.

If you have a dream but currently lack confidence in your ability to live on purpose AND achieve your goals, I want you to know there is hope.
Three are skills you can learn (that are rarely taught!!) that can help you Cut Through the Noise and Achieve Your Goals in a Distracting World…starting today.

Well, what if you have the desire to start something new or meaningful, but you simply don’t know how to move forward. No one taught you how to do this.

You may be telling yourself:

I struggle to manage my daily life. How can I even think of adding something on top of it?

Or

The last time I tried to pursue a goal, I over-focused on it so much the rest of my life went to shambles.

Or

If I knew what to do…if I was clear on what steps to take, I would start. So, I won’t start until I have clarity.

Well, you may not be on top of today’s to dos.  You may be disorganized and struggle to focus. You may not have the clarity you need to take that first step.

An unhappy woman sitting on a sofa in a messy living room

Please hear me loud and clear: THAT IS OKAY!

Being disorganized…struggling to focus…or lacking clarity on how to move forward does NOT disqualify you from achieving your dreams and goals.

Don’t get me wrong, they help. But they are not required.

When you get to the end of your life and God asks you “What did you do with the dreams and goals I laid on your heart?”  Are you going to answer, “I never got organized?!?”

No!

Being organized and “on top of it” is not a pre-qualifier for living your unique purpose–for fulfilling your unique purpose in this world–for doing those things that only you see need to be done.

When you get to the end of your life and God asks you “What did you do with the dreams and goals I laid on your heart?”  Are you going to answer, “I never got organized?!?”

How would you feel if I told you there is a way you can both live on purpose and achieve your goals? And. You don’t have to wait until you “have it all together.”

(That would be like waiting to start a weight loss program until you have lost the weight!!)

What if you could take begin to take charge of your life and your time?

What if you felt confident you could live on purpose and achieve your goals?

What would you do first?

If you have a dream but currently lack confidence in your ability to live on purpose AND achieve your goals, I want you to know there is hope.

Three are skills you can learn (that are rarely taught!!) that can help you Cut Through the Noise and Achieve Your Goals in a Distracting World…starting today.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, a person who has struggled all my life with ADHD symptoms, and a homeschooling mother of five, I know you need real answers real quick that are easy to learn and quick to apply.

I have spent the last five years helping people just like you get clarity on what matters most and getting it onto your schedule and into your life.
I created Think Time Planner, the FIRST Creative Productivity Planner designed to engage more of your brain to boost your focus, motivation, and energy toward your truest goals. Y’all, it’s a GAME CHANGER.

I will tell you more later, but for today, I want to emphasize the importance of not waiting until a time in the future when you “have more time” or “have it all together.”

That’s where I specialize in helping people–helping people to harness the power of their creative mind to focus and make things happen…
In my next post, I will share a simple formula to keep at the front of your mind to to help you find more time so you can begin to get traction.

So, keep your eye out for that post.

Cheering you on!

Three Ways to Boost Your Energy

How often do you take time to consider how you can boost your energy?⠀

You may not often think of what a game-changer good energy is, but it is soooo important.  I love the way performance psychologist Jim Loehr says it: “Energy is life!”  If you have poor energy, you miss out on life.

Truly, the amount of energy you bring to a task or a relationship makes all of the difference. Yet in the busyness of your day to day life, you could be depleting this most valuable asset instead of restoring it.

The Think Time Planner helps you process your life so you can live on purpose in a distracting world–and part of living on purpose is boosting your energy so you can show up well.  By combining creative thinking and mindfulness with productivity, you can see your life in a more complete sphere so you can not only be confident are you getting more done in less time, but you can also be confident you are getting the RIGHT THINGS done.

Today, I want to show you how you can boost your energy levels with your Think Time Planner.

Think Time Creative Productivity Planner helps you find time for what matters most.

1 Get More Sleep.  Use the Review section to become mindful of what is working and what is not working as you seek to get more sleep. Then, use these insights to create your Dream Routine and time block this directly onto your weekly calendar. To add a visual boost, time block your sleep by coloring in those hours with a charcoal gray oil pastel or dry-brush paint black to claim them for sleep.

2 Reduce Your Stress. When you have a lot of unresolved thoughts, your brain works overtime to find a place to put them.  It can be exhausting to have so much on your mind. That’s why I created the Daily Planner ThinkPad. Every morning when you wake up, use your Daily Planner to get on paper everything that is on your mind and create a clear plan for your day so you can reduce your stress and move into your day with calm confidence. (Learn more techniques to reduce your stress in my course From Chaos to Confidence.)

3 Get on the Move.  Building exercise into your routine is a keystone habit to boost your energy.  Each quarter, use your “Health” Concept Cloud to mind map all of your ideas for getting more exercise. Raise your chances of success by moving the best ideas into your Dream Routine.  Raise your chances of success even more by inviting your friends or family to join you. (You can learn more tips for creating Routines that Support Your Long-Term Goals in my Course Cut Through the Noise.)

Your weekly plan for boosting your energy may never be 100% perfect. That’s okay.  Your Think Time Planner is the place where you identify what you would do if you had total control. Then, you flex with your real life and record your journey along the way in the Review area.

Life happens. And, that is okay.

Your goal is to control what is within your control by creating ideal rhythms and routines that help support your dreams and goals.  Over time, you will become who you want to be across many areas of your life. This week, don’t miss out on your life because of a lack of energy, focus on boosting your energy so you can infuse more life into the tasks and relationships that matter most to you.

How do you plan to boost your energy this week?

Better to Start Small Than Not At All

It is better to start small than to not start at all.

These are super important days. Have you considered that you may have an important role to play in them?

Often, when you think of making a difference in the world, you may feel like you need to do something really big.

Then, you see the obstacles.

And because you can’t do something big…

You.

Don’t.

Do.

Anything.

As a mother of five with a global sized vision and a million ideas, I feel this tension a lot. However, even though I have a lot going on, I still make time to try to make a difference.

And you can too.

Here are three things you can do to turn this tension you feel into a purposeful action that can change the world.

Know your values

To get clarity, start with your values.  Know what things matter most to you and orient everything else around these things.

Set some uninterrupted think-time aside with your Mission Statement and Core Values Worksheets or Discover Your Purpose in 5 Minutes Course to get clear on the things that matter to you. Who are you? Why are you here? What difference are you here to make in the world.

Always start with your ultimate destination first.

This gives you MORE TIME for what you VALUE MOST.

“One person really can make a difference–in fact, it is the only thing that ever has”

Feel the tension

When you look at your values, you may immediately hear yourself saying, “I am only one person.” Or, “I don’t have time.” Or, “I can’t…” Or, “Maybe later, when ___ is different.”

If this is the case, acknowledge that you do have limited time and resources; but also affirm that you still want to make a difference of some sort. (And, you don’t know how many days you will be given.)

Now, this is where it gets fun.

You are holding two seemingly opposing desires in your mind at once.  This is a keystone skill in creative thinking that helps you get clear on what you really want. (Sharpen your creative thinking skills here.)

When you get super clear on what you want–even if it involves solving a problem…research shows your subconscious mind gets to work to find a solution for you–even when you are not consciously trying!

After you have clarified what you want–even if you don’t have an answer of how you will do it–keep a voice app or a small notebook with you to record the ideas that come into your mind.

Take action

Now, do something. Pick something from the selection of ideas that you have.

It’s okay if you need to start small.

It’s better to start small than to not start at all.

Even starting with 5 minutes can make a difference in the world.

You are

Who you are

Where you are

&

When you are

For an irreplaceable purpose.

If you don’t do this, who will?

Don’t let the limiting thoughts of “I don’t have time or I am only one person; I can’t make a difference.” or “I don’t have time” or “I can’t…” stop you.

You.

Can.

Do.

Something.

Give it some think-time and get clarity now!

Sincerely,

Christine

How to Produce Your Best Work–At a Moment’s Notice!

As I was driving my husband’s truck along White Rock Lake one evening, I was listening to a podcast by a guy I had never heard of.

His name was Todd Henry, and he works with creatives to help them thrive and produce their best results.

Todd recognized that people who work in creative fields have to keep themselves fresh to be ready to produce innovative results on demand.  If they burn out, they cannot produce on demand, and their job is in jeopardy or their work is no longer their best.

Through his research, he developed a system to help people stay “FRESH.”  As he was sharing his insights on a podcast, I had to pull the truck over as my chin dropped through the floor.

I had just released Think Time months earlier and could not believe how Todd’s cutting edge research aligned with our process.  Among other things, our process encourages self-care, regular time to think, relational connectedness, and…well you need to get his book to discover the rest of the life-changing tips.

But for now, whether you consider yourself “creative” or not, you need to produce results on demand each day.

Move into this week with confidence as you use your Think Time Life-Coaching Planner that you will be fresh and ready to give your best results.

To go deeper on this topic, get Todd’s book “The Accidental Creative: How to Be Brilliant At A Moment’s Notice” here.

What do you do?

Are You Enjoying Yourself?

Part of the Think Time process involves including things in our life that we enjoy.

At Think Time, we don’t only plan for things we have to do, but we also plan for things that will build us up and refuel us.

What are some things that you enjoy?

Are you remembering to include them as you move into your week?

The best way to do this is with your Think Time Planner.

Use the “to be“ cloud to brainstorm the ways you want to refuel this week.

Simply Have A Great Day!

I used to feel like I was a victim of my days.  It was a “good day” or a “bad day” and I didn’t really have much to do with what type it was.

I was along for the ride.

I also used to feel like whether I was successful in the course of a day had something to do with measuring up to an external standard.

What I am sharing in today’s Coaching Minute foundationally transformed how I view my days.

I don’t know of too many ideas have been more transformative for my life than this one.

I was first introduced to this concept by Marcia Ramsland in her book Simplify Your Life: Get Organized and Stay That Way.

In this book, Marcia suggests that I could make a plan for my day and design it in a way that worked for me…in a way that I enjoyed.

At the time, this idea was revolutionary to me.  Up to this point in my life, I had not thought much about what I enjoyed in a day.  I had dutifully sought to do what I thought was supposed to be done.  I had not considered that I was designed purposefully and perfectly to have certain types of days that would bring my heart joy in ways different than others–that certain types of days that would make my heart sing and feel successful to me.

I had pretty much just compared myself to people I knew, to external pressures that were placed on me and listened unquestioningly to the internal critic in my head.  All of these were not helpful to me and generally left me feeling pretty bad.

I thought that to be productive, purposeful, or effective I needed to somehow become a Type A, organized person who loved to check things off my list and to do stuff all of the time.

Well, that is certainly not me; so in my internal world, I was always failing to live up to my own expectations.

What a sad thing!

I am beautifully designed for a unique purpose, but at that time, I was comparing myself to the standard’s of someone else’s unique purpose.

What an utter waste!!

In her book Simplify Your Life, Marcia taught me to respect my unique design by clarifying the type of life I enjoyed.

Did I enjoy waking up and checking things off quickly or did I enjoy a slow morning?

What pace did I like my days to hold?  Slow, medium, or fast?

What types of activities do I want to include in an ideal day?

As you go into your day today, ask yourself if you are arranging your life in a way that suits how are you are designed.

What do you enjoy? Are you scheduling your life in a way that helps you thrive? Or do you have an image in your head of something you “should” be or do to be successful today?  Let go of the external image of who you think you should be, and embrace who you really are.

Your design is perfectly aligned with your purpose.

Embrace this truth, be yourself, and simply have a great day!  You will be so happy you did!

Just. Do. Something!!

So often, when we think of making a difference in the world, we feel like we need to do something really big.  Then, because we can’t do something big…

We.

Don’t.

Do.

Anything.

: (

business vision: think unconventionally, fish jumping into a bigger bowl

Right before I have had my last two babies, I have been really struck with global issues of poverty and environmental care.  :/

As you parents and grandparents well know, right before you have a baby is not the best time to start a global campaign to change the world. 🙂

Think Time encourages you to be mindful of what you really want.  The first phase—the Dream Phase–guides you to think about things as if there were no obstacles.  Then, the Decide Phase helps you sift and sort the ideas to fit your real life.

So, I gave it some think-time.

DSC_0051

I accepted that I wanted to make a difference in the world and also acknowledged my real season of life.

Then, ideas came to me of how I could do something aligned with my values–even if smaller.

I didn’t ask myself if I could make a difference or not. That would be either/or thinking—which is “bad” thinking in the world of Think Time.  Instead, I asked myself the Think Time purpose question: “What can only I do?“

Here are three solutions that came to mind when I asked this question of myself in seasons that would not fit the “go big or go home” mentality.

#1 Poverty.

Before having my fourth child, I was personally struck with the needs of the poor. When I applied a little think-time and asked what only I could do, I realized…

  • I live in one of the most privileged cities in our hemisphere.
  • I also realized I have a friend who works with underprivileged expectant women in the poorest country in our hemisphere—Haiti.
  • The third thing that came to mind is our shared passion of supporting the bond between moms and babies.

What came of this?  My first annual “Haiti Baby Carrier Drive!”  Now, I had never done anything like this.  However, when I thought about it, all I had to do was make a website page, drop off some boxes in strategic locations, and tell people about it. Then, all I needed to do is collect the baby carriers and ship them to my friend.

She was already doing the educational work with the young moms.  Voila!  A Think Time Solution!

Guess what happened!  I didn’t save the world.  (That is Someone else’s job.) However, my friend later told me that there were four preemies born at just the time the carriers arrived.  The midwives believed that these carriers given by generous moms in Dallas may have helped save their lives.  I am so glad I gave some think-time to what was on my heart and didn’t think that because I had a full plate, I couldn’t do anything.

#2 The Environment.

As I write this blog, I have eight weeks until baby number five is due. This time, however, I am struck with the enormity of global environmental issues. (Rumor has it that frogs may be getting hurt due to chemicals we are putting into the ground.  My kids and I don’t like that.)

Well, I cannot do everything.  However, maybe I can do one thing.  So I asked myself, “What can only I do?”

And is there anything small I can do?

Here’s what came to mind.  I have a couple friends who sell chemical free products. One sells cleaning cloths that allow you to clean your house without chemicals. Another sells chemical free make up.  So, I thought, “Why don’t I host a party?”  I love parties. They will do all the work.  I will have all the fun. A small difference could be made.  Voilà. A think-time solution.

#3 Think Time.

The fact that you were reading this blog right now is a result of this same process.

Throughout my life, I’ve been passionate about helping people to move beyond perceived obstacles toward their dreams and their unique purpose.

So, I looked at what I had. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have had experience working with people as a therapist with brain injured patients. I have over a decade of leadership training. I have graduate level training in creative thinking.

But.  I also have young children.

So, I did not create a coaching business that would take me all over the world during this season.

I recognized my desire to be very present with my husband and kids during this unique season of having young children.

But.

I still wanted to help people.

So, I created a product that would help people in the same way I would help them if I was sitting across the room from them or teaching from a platform.

Voila!  A Think Time solution!

What is it that you really want to do but tend to think you cannot accomplish because of your season of life?

Is there a reduced vision of this dream that you can move toward?

Is there something that only you can do in this field that no one else can?

Give it some think-time and see what surfaces!

Get clarity on what you really want.  Reduce it to fit your season of life.

You may be surprised at the difference one person really can make–even when life is busy, distracting, and demanding!

I am So Tired!

Are you exhausted?

If you are like so many people I know you are wearing yourself out to “get stuff done.”

Today I want to challenge you to ask yourself the question, “Is it worth it?”

Are these things that I’m doing worth my energy, my time, and my health?

When you are exhausted, you’re not doing your best work, you are not connecting with others well, and you’re not ready to meet the challenges of the day.

Are the tasks you are doing right now that are wearing you out worth that to you?

Is the trade off worth it?

“That’s When The Kids Came.” On Repurposing Our Goals.

Life is not all about achieving our goals.

It’s about living our lives.

Sometimes we set aside our goals for a time to live more fully focused on what matters more.  In other words, we repurpose our goals…we shift our focus.

I was recently talking with a friend who adopted a sibling set of three a few years ago.  She was describing their move to the city and all of the renovations she and her husband completed on their home.  Then, she described a specific location where the renovations stopped.

“That’s when the kids came.”

Her adoption process turned out to involve an incredibly short wait, and when her kids arrived, there was no turning back to finish renovations!

There was not a hint of regret in her voice.  It was clear where her priorities were.  Welcoming these precious kids into her life immediately took precedence over home renovations. What had been important a month earlier now was not even being considered for time and attention.

This is good.

We do well to constantly reevaluate our priorities according to our season of life and adjusting accordingly.

Life is meant to be lived to the full in the present.

Do you have some things on your calendar that reflect old priorities?  Do your best to let these go and focus fully on your current season of life.
