Clarity Takes Hard Work.

I recently spent three hours with a friend who is gifted in organization.  She helped me to sift and sort through four ages of kids clothes, creating donation bags, and organizing the “keepers” in accessible bins.

As I look into my kids’ closet after all that work, the takeaway I had was, “Clarity takes hard work.”

After three full hours of two of us working nonstop, there is clarity in my kids’ closets and drawers.  It is clear which clothes are for each child. It is clear what I have and what I need to purchase for the next season. It is clear where my children need to return their clothes when they are clean.

This clarity feels good.

I will admit, however, I am exhausted after sifting and sorting 1 million little pieces of fabric.  It hurts my brain!

However, I wouldn’t go back and do anything differently. That job needed to be done. And we will all benefit from the hard work applied to that task.

This clarity is peaceful.

This clarity is productive.

This clarity is worth the hard work.

This process reminds me of the hard mental & emotional work we put into the Think Time process.  It takes work to cast a clear vision, to decide what stays and what needs to go, and how to place activities into the correct containers (or boxes on our calendars).

In the middle of the process, it feels a bit messy, and tough calls have to be made.  “Yeses” need to be identified.  “Nos” need to be bravely stated.

Perseverance will ensure the job is well done.

The process takes hard work.

But, when it is all over…

This clarity is peaceful.

This clarity is productive.

This clarity is worth it!

As you take time to think-time this week, ask yourself if you are putting in the work to really get the clarity you need to move forward in peace and confidence.

Eye Contact

We live in the Digital Age.

We have many advances and really cool things we can do now.

However, what is one thing that has changed?

Eye contact.

It is through eye contact that we connect with those around us.

It is through eye contact that we step out of our own lives and into the world of another.

It is through eye contact that we know and are known.

As you move throughout your week, be aware of your eyes and the eyes of others.  Are you making meaningful life-giving connections, or are you missing them?

“That’s When The Kids Came.” On Repurposing Our Goals.

Life is not all about achieving our goals.

It’s about living our lives.

Sometimes we set aside our goals for a time to live more fully focused on what matters more.  In other words, we repurpose our goals…we shift our focus.

I was recently talking with a friend who adopted a sibling set of three a few years ago.  She was describing their move to the city and all of the renovations she and her husband completed on their home.  Then, she described a specific location where the renovations stopped.

“That’s when the kids came.”

Her adoption process turned out to involve an incredibly short wait, and when her kids arrived, there was no turning back to finish renovations!

There was not a hint of regret in her voice.  It was clear where her priorities were.  Welcoming these precious kids into her life immediately took precedence over home renovations. What had been important a month earlier now was not even being considered for time and attention.

This is good.

We do well to constantly reevaluate our priorities according to our season of life and adjusting accordingly.

Life is meant to be lived to the full in the present.

Do you have some things on your calendar that reflect old priorities?  Do your best to let these go and focus fully on your current season of life.

Dream in High Definition.

“Dream in High Definition.”  This is the way Chris Hogan explains it.

I love this word picture!

Chris helps people to plan for retirement.  But.  He doesn’t do it in the traditional numbers, spreadsheets and lines format—which is why he is so compelling.

He coaches his people to dreamto dream with a vision so clear that will change everything about the way they do everything.

What type of life do they want when they retire?

rawpixel-1072874-unsplash.jpg

Do they want to travel?  Do they want to generously give?  Do they want to leave an inheritance for their families?

I recently listened to him share this idea with an audience of entrepreneurs.

To illustrate this point, he described an experience of going into a store to pick out a new TV for his house with his son.  He said some of the high definition screens were so big and so clear you could see the sweat drop on the football player’s face before it left the pore.

That’s.  Real.   Clear.

This is how clearly he wants his people to see their dreams.

The reason Chris encourages people to get clear on their dreams is because he knows that once you have clarity on your dreams, everything else changes.

Without the dream, nothing changes.

What is your dream?

Are you moving through the dream phase in your Think Time Life Coaching Planner each week to add clarity to what you really want?  This is THE starting point for real life change and growth.

This is the only way you will get there.

Give it some think-time.

Your dreams will change everything.
